On 07.05.2012, Siemens stock locomotive 183 712 arrived in Austria, coming from Munich. Just before, it was sold to Steiermarkbahn Transport und Logistik GmbH, the freight division of the Steiermärkische Landesbahnen. |

It was always planned like this. The very last Siemens ES64U4 type locomotive to be delivered, 183 717, was used as testbed locomotive by Siemens in the last couple of years. When its ETCS Trainguard test career was completed, it would be delivered to Austrian railfreight operator Steiermarkbahn. And so it happened. During the past month the white machine was retrofitted in Linz and got the Steiermarkbahn colour scheme. Now we receive the first images of the locomotive in its new look, and its first revenue trains.

The last one standing: Until next year, Siemens locomotive 183 717 is being used for ETCS tests for Siemens itself. After this, it will be handed over to the Steiermarkbahn, who has purchased this locomotive. Now it is promoting Siemens Trainguard with big blue stickers. - Siemens

In the beginning of 2015, Siemens will delivered a second ES 64 U4 type locomotive to Steiermarkbahn from Austria. It is the second locomotive of this type for this operator, which wants to use it for long haul freight services. This new 1216 961 is the very last locomotive of its type built by Siemens. Currently it is still used by the manufacturer as machine no. 183 717. This year it will be used for various ETCS testing.
Until Siemens hands over 183 717 / 1216 961 to Steiermarkbahn, the operator hires multi-system electric 189 822. In the past weeks this locomotive already arrived at the Steiermarkbahn depot where it got new logos. - Siemens

In the mean time, Siemens in Austria has published more information about the Steiermarkbahn purchasing a ES64U4 locomotive. The 1216 960 will be delivered this summer and painted in green and white. A low-budget impression (...) of the livery is included in the statement.

The [edit] Steiermarkbahn Transport und Logistik GmbH, the open access division of the Steiermärkische Landesbahnen (StLB), has purchased one ES64U4 locomotive from Siemens. The unit involved is stock locomotive Siemens 21670 - Siemens 183 712. - Siemens
The image shows the locomotive with its new STB designation: 91 81 1216 960-5 A-STB. On 07.05.2012 it ran from Munich-Allach to Linz. - MR
