Traxx 2 platform

This generation is still in production (AC2 derivates only), although its predecessor (Traxx 2E) already has been introduced. This will continue untill the last Railion 185.2 series is delivered in 2009, and maybe even longer. The first representatives were Bombardier demonstrator 185 561 and SBB Cargo Re484 001, both rolled out in May 2004. The modular properties of the 2nd generation of Traxx locomotives made it possible for Bombardier to integrate a multi-system version. Major innovation, in respect to the first Traxx generation is the introduction of a complete new body design, addressing the new European TSI guidelines on crash safety. Traxx2 comes in two different main configurations; AC2 are bi-tension electrics for Ac voltage systems only, the MS version can run on all generally applied AC and DC voltage systems.
