In January 2007 RTS (rail operator) and Swietelsky (construction company) announced the purchase of two Siemens ES64U4 electrics, identical to the 1216s for the Austrian railways (OBB) that were in production in Linz at that time. True, a full-fledged 230 kph fast multi-purpose locomotive is overrated for RTS, but choosing this type at that time guaranteed a short delivery time.
In April and July 2007 the designated 1216 901 and 902 were delivered. Since then, RTS/Swietelsky uses the locomotives to pull construction and maintenance trains. Additionally, they are available for hire to other operators. Early 2008, as RTS/Swietelsky decided to change the design of the 901/902. The large silver surface upfront was removed.
In May 2011, Siemens delivered a third ES64U4 locomotive to RTS/Swietelsky, the designated 1216 903.

As you may know, CargoServ Vectron no. 1193 890 is under repair in Munich. The machines had an accident on 15.07.2015 in Vienna. CargoServ now hires [correction] Locon 189 821 to fill the gap. RTS 1216 901, in the title picture, is also running for CargoServ now, but it is the stand-in for CargoServ's 1216 933, which is due for maintenance. (KAR / Andreas Kepplinger)

Since Monday, RTS 1216 903 is a long way from home. Via Serbia and Bulgaria, the machine is now in Turkey. This shot shows the machine with train 46873 in Plovdiv Razpredelitelna (BG), ready for depart for Dimivtrovgrad (BG), Svilengrad (BG) and Kapıkule (TR). - KP

 Since the last days of December 2012, ODEG also has a rake of metronom coaches available for its replacement services around Berlin. The image shows the coaches, unfortuntaley vandalized by graffiti, waiting for their first services together with ES 64 U2-100.
As from today, these coaches are in service, together with RTS 1216 901(!). Times of sorrow result in very very exotic combinations. Has a Siemens ES64U4-locomotive ever been hauling a double deck passenger train before?

Since this week, two new ES64U4 locomotives have been delivered to their operators:
Siemens 21651 - RTS 1216 903: The third unit for this operator and released as version D, approved for Germany and Austria only. As the locomotive has performed test in Hungary before delivery, we expect that this will change..
 Second unit is Siemens 21414 - WLC 1216 953 / 91 83 1216 953-0 A-WLC: Curiously numbered as 1216 and not as 183 706 as expected. It is the fourth unit for WLC and the third from the latest order of four, also still one to come.
update: the UIC grid of both engines tell us that they are only approved for Germany and Austria, for what its worth. However, the 1216 903 is version D, that should indicate that it will have the same package as the Polish PKP locomotives. An SHP-magnet for Poland is visible on the locomotive.
 The 1216 953 is soon to be version C, to be homologated for [AT] [DE] [CZ] [SK] and maybe [HU]?. However, on this engine the NVR-number is strange.. 91 83 tells us that it should be Italian in some way... but the letter A stands for Austria. Next to that the check digit -0 only is correct when 81 (Austria) is used in stead of 83. - HP/ML/RB/DdP
Now only two ES64U4s from the current production are still awaiting delivery: WLC 1216 954 / 183 707 and InRail E190 312.

 Rail Transport Service GmbH from Austria will soon expand its fleet. From Linz, Siemens will deliver a third ES64U4-locomotive to the operator: 1216 903.
Same for the number of diesel-electric EuroRunners, with the new 2016 908 their numbers will be raised from three to four. - Siemens

Slovenian electric 541.101 arrived in Croatia last week, to start ES64U4 homologation procedures for this country. RTS 1216 902 left the OBB works shops in Linz lastw eek after being refitted for approval runs in Slovenia. The livery of the machine was adjusted during its stay in Linz, on both fronts the silver horizontal bar has been removed. - Bahnbilder
