[PL] Budokrusz received its first Dragon from Newag
Recently, Janusz Malinowski, president of Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna, published a picture of a "mystery" Dragon locomotive on twitter as it was being assembled by Newag in Nowy Sącz. Why was it a mystery? Because of its Newag corporate paint scheme and the anonymity of its future owner. It turns out, the locomotive will be operated by a new carrier, transporting aggregates: Budokrusz.
Today, the machine was officially presented on the premises of Budokrusz. The specifications of the designated E6ACTd-106 are identical to the Dragon locomotives produced for Freightliner PL: DC + a shunting diesel module. The air intakes for the combustion engine are visible on the sides of the 106. The locomotive will be operated by train drivers of PKP Cargo. Budokrusz has also taken delivery of new freight wagons for the transportation of bulk materials.

[PL] Newag: A new Dragon locomotive is being built
Rynek-kolejowy.pl reports: A new six-axle Dragon locomotive is under construction by Newag. It has a Newag livery and a body design that is similar to the Dragon's built for Freightliner PL. This indicates we are looking at another electric locomotive with (shunting) diesel engine.
This is Dragon locomotive no.5 for Freightliner PL from Poland. It had a test run today and is soon to be handed over to the operator. It is the very last locomotive built by Newag at its Gliwice plant. The company has decided to concentrate all its rolling stock construction activities at its other factory location in Nowy Sącz. The Gliwice factory came into possession of Newag when it (fully) took over ZNLE in 2015.
The history of the factory in Gliwice goes back to 1904. A history full of steam locomotives and locomotive modernization. In total, 15 new electrics have been built since 2006 at Gliwice. Dragon locomotive E6ACT-001 to 009. E6ACtd-101 to 105 and the Griffin prototype: E4MSU-001.

[PL] Freightliner PL Dragon: official presentation
Freightliner Poland has started operating its first Dragon locomotives with shunting diesel. Since 31.05.2016, the machines are being used in revenue service. E6ACTd-101/102/103 are ready to go, unit 104/105 are under construction and will arrive during the summer.
Today, E6ACTd-101 (now also designated as 3170 001-4) was presented officially at Warsaw. It was symbolically handed over by Newag to Freightliner and the locomotive got a name: Ernest Malinowski. He was a famous Polish railway engineer living in the 19th century.
Hybrid Freightliner PL Dragon locomotive no.3 is unleashed. We see the locomotives during test runs in both electric and diesel mode. For example: on 19.05.2016, the machine made a test run with a 3.720 tonnes freight train from Rudna Gwizdanów to Kostrzyn Towarowy, with Class 66 no. 66602 as back-up. After arriving in Kostrzyn Towarowy, the 103 hauled the train to the upper, not electrified part of the station by itself. Thank you Damian Nawrocki, Adam Kupniewski and Radek Kopras for all this images and the video.

[PL] Newag gets funding to develop 6-axle multi system electric locomotive
In 2018, Polish manufacturer Newag wants to present its first multi system Dragon locomotive. A six axle electric locomotive compliant with all standards of EU Technical Specifications for Interoperability, an interesting addition to the current market, which is dominated by four axle machines. The construction of the prototype should start soon.
Rynek Kolejowy states that the new project, which will cost around 27 million PLN, will be funded by a 10 million PLN grant from the Narodowego Centrum Badań i Rozwoju (NCBR or National Centre for Research and Development). NCBR selected Newag's plan for a heavy multisystem electric as the winner of a competition. NCBR and Newag will sign a contract in one month.

[PL] Official: Newag locomotives for Freightliner Poland
Approximately PLN 75 million –this will be the cost of five electric locomotives ordered by the dynamically developing rail logistics company to service its increasing freight volumes.
“This transaction proves that Freightliner Group sees a high growth potential in the railway market in Poland. This is yet another multi-million investment matching our motto ‘Reliability as standard’ - which means supplying our customers with effective logistic solutions while maintaining the highest focus on quality and safety. We are fully convinced it is the right choice to invest in the rolling stock manufactured by the Polish producer with long traditions which is able to deliver world-class products. We believe that the process of increasing modernisation of the Polish railway network will be coupled with an increasing role of modern and innovative rolling stock,” stated Konstantin Skorik, President of the Board of Freightliner PL.
The Dragon locomotives ordered by Freightliner PL are six-axle locomotives of 5MW power, adapted to pulling heavy freight trains exceeding 4 thousand tonnes. They will be equipped with the Dual Power module — an additional diesel engine of 520kW in power enabling to service customers also on non-electrified end lines, and at sidings without a need for shunting locomotives (the so-called ‘last mile’).
“Dragons are powerful, safe, attractively-priced locomotives, economical in operation, generously equipped and, most of all, highly reliable. Therefore, they will perfectly complement our existing rolling stock,” said Wojciech Jurkiewicz, Managing Director of Freightliner PL.
The rail freight operator will receive the first three locomotives in May 2016 and the remaining two by the end of July 2016.
Bartosz Krzemiński, President of the Board of NEWAG Gliwice S.A emphasised that the signed contract constituted another step in launching NEWAG’s locomotives in Western markets. “The fact that Freightliner Group, a leading independent European rail operator have come to rely on our product proves that our development strategy has been right,” he added.
The net contract value is EUR 17.5 million. The transaction will be financed by ING Lease (Poland).

[PL] Newag: Dragon locomotives with shunting diesel for Freightliner Poland [updatedx3]
Newag Gliwice just announced a new order for electric locomotives. ING Lease Poland will finance five new Dragon locomotives, to be operated by Freightliner Poland (FPL). The deal has a value of 17,5 million euro. All machines should be available to FPL by 31.07.2016.
Update: Freightliner Poland has released an image of a scale model of their new machine. We see a Dragon locomotive in the yellow and green livery of FPL. Its power rating will be 5MW. Curious is the inclusion of the orange line around the roof of the locomotive. It is a visual reminder not to come too close to the overhead wiring and originates from UK (!) railway regulations.
Update 2: The Dragon locomotives will feature a additional 520 kW combustion engine. Designation for this Dragon locomotive version is E6DCF-DP. - biznes.pap.pl / 1435.pl / MG / rynek-kolejowy.pl
